Columbus Class

Catesby Class

We would like to take this chance to welcome you and your child to Year 2 and to introduce the team. Year 2 is made up of two classes, Columbus Class and Catesby Class.

The teachers are Mrs Slater in Columbus Class and Mrs Pendlebury in Catesby Class. Mrs Regan covers each class one day each week - Wednesdays in Columbus Class, and Thursdays in Catesby Class. Supporting us in the classroom, we have three wonderful Learning Support Assistants: Mrs Sleight, Mrs Law and Miss Allen.

Over the year, your child will continue to be encouraged to become more independent and to take ownership of their own education. Throughout Year 2, we will focus on helping your child reach the expected standard by the end of Key Stage 1, and will ensure that they also develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally.

At Ivanhoe, we value reading greatly, including reading for pleasure. Reading opens the doors to everything. We have lots of reading incentives at Ivanhoe, including our book vending machine! We encourage children to read at home at least 3 times each week. 5 or more reads in a week means your child will be entered into the draw for the book vending machine!

Children will take home one of or 'Book Tree' books, alongside their reading book, and can loan them for as long as they wish. Once returned, they can exchange it for a new one. There will be certificates at the end of the year based on the amount of Book Tree books read and shared at home.

We strongly believe that, by working together, we can help ensure that your child will reach their full potential. We communicate most things through Class DOJO, and we are always available to answer any questions!
