Turtles - Year 5 - Miss Ashcroft

Welcome to Year 5 Turtles Class.

Welcome back everyone. We hope that you have had a fantastic summer break.

Things may seem a little strange at first, as we've been off a little but we're sure you'll settle in and get back in to the swing of things.

As you know, your Year 5 team are:

  • Turtle Class (large class) staff: Miss Ashcroft and Mrs Haines.
  • Koala Class (small class) staff: Mrs Kidd (Mon-Thurs) Miss Wall - (Fri).

Throughout this year, we shall be learning about the following topics:

  • Autumn term - Amazing Amazon
  • Spring 1 - Earth & Beyond
  • Spring 2 - Traders and Raiders
  • Summer 1 - Scream Machine
  • Summer 2 - Off with your Head.

You will need to bring a water bottle every day. We also welcome children to bring in a piece of fruit to have during fruit break (around 10am each day). Children in KS2 are still welcome to bring their own hand sanitiser into school, if they wish - it is for personal use only and must not be shared with others.

There will be staff on the KS2 yard from 8:30, parents are now to drop their children off, between 8:30 and 8:40, the children will be collected by their class teachers at 8:40 and taken to class. All Y5 children will leave at 3:40 through the main KS2 doors.

Our P.E day will be Thursday. Please make sure you have full PE kit, which consists of: shorts, t-shirt, trainers or pumps and jogging/tracksuit bottoms if the weather requires it, along with a water bottle. You are welcome to come to school in your PE kit on PE days.

The Year 4 times table target is to confidently recall and use the multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 x 12, this is a continued target for us in Y5. Lots of us are still not confident in ALL the times tables, so continue to practise. Times table Rock stars is a fantastic way to practise at home. We shall get you sorted with a log in for TTRS.

Within the class, children are rewarded with dojo points showing our school learning behaviours, which are; respect, determination, independence, curiosity, resilience and pride. The highest point scorer each week will receive a prize from the class prize box.

Homework will be given on a Friday and expected to be handed in on the following Friday. Parents/carers can sign the front sheet to acknowledge that they have seen it and use it for comments. Homework plays a huge role in support children's learning.

Reading is a major focus within school, please encourage your child to bring their reading book/record to school every day (extra dojos awarded if you have your book, whenever the teacher asks for it) and read at home as often as possible. It's also lovely to read/share books with your children. This helps to develop their knowledge, understanding and vocabulary. We have included a list of recommended reads for Year 5.

If you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Keep a regular eye on Class dojos for any news/messages from Mr Brian or the Year 5 team.
