Dolphins - Year 5/6 C - Mrs Sedgwick

Welcome!

Mrs Sedgwick & Mrs Bush would like to welcome you to the Dolphins page. We look forward to getting to know you over this academic year and sharing our learning journey with you.

This is a very important academic year, when children work hard and have the opportunity to show and celebrate what they have learned. It is sad in many ways as it is the final year at primary school, but also exciting as the summer term is the gateway to new challenges at secondary school.

If you have any questions about your child's progress or learning, please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs Sedgwick or Mrs Bush - our door is always open!

Y5/6 - Y5/6A, Y5/6B and Y5/6C Home Learning - Summer 1 Term - Week 2

Home Learning - Summer 1 Term

We hope you have all been keeping safe and well whilst at home - it has been lovely to see what some of you have been getting up to via the new Ivanhoe Primary Facebook Page and our twitter account!

We have put together some learning tasks for you to have a look at over the next few weeks - if you want to! The learning tasks are all about recapping what we have already learnt so far this year ... September seems such a long time ago now so I have tried to do some examples and put some links in to video tutorials in case you need some tips on what to do!

You don't need to print anything off if you don't have a printer - just have a go at the questions in a notebook or on a piece of paper. If you do some work you are really proud off then get your grown up to take a picture and put it on our facebook page or twitter so we can see it!

REMEMBER - You don't have to complete these activities in one go! Take your time and do a little bit each day ... You can use this time at home to have fun with your family too!!!

Keep Safe and we are missing you all.

Mrs Sedgwick. Mrs Noble, Miss Cartwright, Mrs Regan and Miss Whittaker

Home Learning - Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Below are some fun science activities for you to have a go at while you're at home. Why not have a go at some over Easter?! Don't forget to take pictures to show us how you get on - you could even write it up as a report afterwards so you remember it!

Home Learning - Spring 2 Term

As a guideline, we recommend creating a timetable for your child to help you structure their day. Our suggestion would be to spend an hour on each of the key areas below.

Here are some suggested websites for you to access at home - Y5/6 - Y5/6A, Y5/6B and Y5/6C Home Learning

Class Routine

Homework will be set each Friday and needs to be completed by the following Friday.

Our PE day is every Wednesday - please bring both indoor and outdoor kits every week.

Reading - in our small class we try to listen to children read individually every day, however it is still extremely important for children to read at home. We therefore request that all children read every night - remember the more you read the more you learn!

Reading logs that have a parent's/grown-up's signature on will be rewarded with stickers, which can be swapped for rewards.

Spring 1 Term 2019/20

Our topic this term is 'Gallery Rebels'.

Our Spring 1 Learning

Y5/6 studied colour wheels on Friday as part of their Gallery Rebels topic. This involved mixing tints and shades of colours as well as using pure colours to show how artists use these skills to add depth and detail to their paintings.

Autumn 2 Term 2019/20

Our topic this term is 'Beast Creator'.

Our Autumn 2 Learning

As part of a lesson on Remembrance Day, Y5/6 completed some silhouette art. They created the sunsets by blending soft pastels and then drew a silhouette outline on to black card. Here are some of our amazing efforts!

Autumn 1 Term 2019/20

Our topic this term is 'Firedamp and Davey Lamps'.

Literacy: Balanced arguments and Descriptive writing.

Numeracy: Place value and the 4 operations.

History: Topic - Firedamp and Davy Lamps

Visit: National Coal mining museum.

Our Autumn 1 Learning

Two Ex-Miners came into school to share their experiences with the Y5/6 children.

As part of our topic we visited The Coal mining museum and even did some mining of our own - it was just for chocolate chips though!

As part of our Maths learning we began looking at the four operations. We looked at the different vocabulary relating to each operation before moving to focus on word problems. We then moved on to look at formal methods for multiplication and division.

As part of the Doncaster Stories project, every child in KS2 was gifted a Roald Dahl book. Here are some of our Y5/6 children with their copies.
