Events at Ivanhoe

We have lots of events throughout the year at Ivanhoe Academy where the whole school takes part. Take a look at some of them shown below:

Friday 25th September - Macmillan Cake Sale

Today at Ivanhoe we had a cake sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care. The children brought buns, cakes and biscuits to school to sell. We raised a massive £174.11 - so thank you to everyone who helped.

Friday 2nd October - Super Hero Handwriting Day

Today at Ivanhoe we are having a Super Hero Handwriting Day. We've had Bat-Man, Spider-Man and Bat-Girl in school to help inspire the children with their writing.

Friday 9th October - Harvest Festival

It's Harvest Festival Day today at Ivanhoe. We had two assemblies to celebrate the occasion - one for the KS1 children and our weekly assembly hosted by members of the local church. As always, our parents generously donated lots of food, and this afternoon it was collected by the local food bank from Mexborough.

Thursday 22nd October - Halloween Pumpkin Competition

The children have been designing their pumpkins ready for the pumpkin competition for Halloween.

Thursday 22nd October - KS1 Chocolate Apples

The Children from KS1 have been making chocolate apples for the Halloween Disco.

Wednesday 4th November - Reception Maths Workshop

Today, Mrs Matthews (one of our Reception teachers) organised a Maths Workshop for parents and children of the Reception classes. Parents came into school and worked alongside their children to see how parents can support their children at home.

Friday 13th November - Children In Need

At Ivanhoe we like to support charities whenever we can: if it involves dressing in our pyjamas, even better!

Wednesday 18th November - Reception Phonics Workshop

Our Reception teacher, Mrs Matthews, hosted a Phonics Workshop for parents of the Reception children.

Tuesday 1st December - Winter Wonderland

Our teachers have transformed the FS2 and KS1 area into a Winter Wonderland to celebrate the forthcoming season.

Thursday 3rd December - KS2 Pantomime

Today we have Pantomimes in school for both key stages. This morning we've had a production of Jack and the Beanstalk for the KS2 children ...

... and this afternoon the KS1 children watched a production of Beauty and the Beast.

Wednesday 9th December - Magical Maths Christmas Market

At Ivanhoe today we've had a Magical Maths Christmas Market. All the children have made Christmas decorations/cards/sweets etc and have sold them at the market today.

Thursday 10th December - FS2 & KS1 Nativity

Today we had the first of three Nativity performances by our FS2 and KS1 children.

Friday 11th December - Ivanhoe Carol Service

This morning, all the KS2 children have been to St Peter's Church in Conisbrough for our wonderful annual Ivanhoe Carol Service.

Tuesday 15th December - Christmas Dinner Day

Today we've had Christmas dinner day at Ivanhoe with turkey and all the trimmings. Yum!

Tuesday 15th December - Christmas Jumper Day

Today was Christmas Jumper day at Ivanhoe. Children were invited to wear something Christmas related.

Tuesday 19th January - Firemen Visit

The firemen came to visit the Reception children at Ivanhoe to give a safety talk and show the children their fire engine.

Monday 25th January - Project Artist

Last week and this week at Ivanhoe we have a Project Artist in school working with all the children. Each class is making a model to support the topics they have been doing in class, including a Viking Long ship for Y4 and an ice cream van to support Reception's transport topic.

Friday 29th January - Bible Assembly

Today is a sad day at Ivanhoe. For several years we have had a bible assembly on a Friday morning - today is the last one. Lynne, from St Peter's Church in Conisbrough, has made the assemblies both informative and fun for children and staff. Lynne will be greatly missed by us all and we wish her all the best for the future.

Friday 5th February - Chinese New Year

Our Reception and KS1 children have been celebrating the Chinese New Year. They have been tasting Chinese food and making Chinese lanterns.

Friday 5th February - Crazy Hair Day

Today at Ivanhoe we are having Crazy Hair Day to raise money for World Cancer Day.

Monday 22nd February - Science Dome

Today we have a Science Dome in school to support the Y3's topic about light.

Friday 4th March - Handwriting Heroes (2)

Today we've celebrated 'everyday heroes' at Ivanhoe. This is to support the children's work on handwriting heroes.

Sunday 8th May - Y6 Sunday School

Today we are having a Y6 Sunday School to prepare everyone for this week's SATs tests. The children have worked very hard and as a reward have had a McDonald's lunch as a treat, as well as being able to have lovely playtimes with lots of outdoor play activities.

Thursday 16th June - 'Sing Up' Concert at the Dome

Yesterday afternoon and well into the evening, some of our children from various classes took part in the 'Sing Up' Concert at the Dome.

Wednesday 22nd June - Y6 Maths Exercise

Today our Y6 children have been doing a maths exercise - designing, planning and making either sandwiches or cakes.

Tuesday 28th June - Y3 Roman Day.

Wednesday 29th & Thursday 30th June - Y6 'Bikeability' event.

Y6 children took part in the 'Bikeability' event. The children did some training on the school playground and were then taken out of the school grounds to learn safety awareness.

Thursday 7th July - All school Sponsored Walk.

Today's all school Sponsored Walk formed part of our annual Sports Week. Children are helping to raise money to fund a guide dog.

Thursday 7th July - KS1 multi-sports activities.

Continuing with the Sports Week theme, here are our KS1 children taking part in their multi-sports activities.

Thursday 7th July - KS2 Sports Week.

As part of Sports Week, the KS2 children took part in Tae Kwon Do, cricket and rounders.

Week commencing 11th July - Ivanhoe Art Week.

This week at Ivanhoe we are having our annual Art Week. The children are producing work, some of which are based on a particular artist.

The Reception children have been inspired by the artist Paul Klee and their creations include geometric shapes, for which his work is famous.

Our Y1 children have focused on a Russian Artist, Wassily Kandinsky. The children have been inspired by the colour he used in his work and this is evident in their art work.

The Y1/2 children have used the Spanish artist Joan Miro as their inspiration.

For Art Week our Y2 children used the Dutch artist, Van Gogh as their inspiration.

Miss Cartwright's class (Y3) have been working on a topic about Romans, they have made Roman soldiers in a mosaic design.

The Y3B children have also based their art work on their Roman topic.

The Y4 children have based their Art Week on the British artist LS Lowry.

The Y4B children based their Art Week on the abstract American painter, Jackson Pollock.

The Y5 children based their work on the Scottish sculptor David Mach.

Mrs Noble's Y6 class have not based their work on a specific artist but have created sculptures of themselves in clay.

For Art Week the children of Mrs Sedgwick's Y6 class have not focused on a specific artist, but have made hot air balloons out of papier mache.

Thursday 14th July - Teddy Bears' Picnic.

Today we had our annual Teddy Bears' Picnic!

Thursday 21st July - Music Bugs Playgroup.

This morning at Ivanhoe, we had our first Music Bugs Playgroup. We will be having many more of these, beginning in the autumn term. As you can see from the pics, everyone had a fabulous time

Thursday 21st July - Year 6 Prom.

This evening we have had a Y6 Prom. Everyone looked fabulous!!
